Avoidance and Prevention: Bloating

A lousy and a not nice feeling to have but yet super common for both women and men to experience bloating.

What kind of food and even superfoods that cause bloating?

Cruciferous vegetables:

Yes, we’re talking vegetables like Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, and the likes. Whilst these foods bring much essence of good nutrients to our bodies the form of nutrients these veggies carry what’s called raffinose. Raffinose is non-digestible carbohydrates that the human body have difficulties to break it down. As it processes through our intestine, our normal intestinal bacteria ferment them into carbon dioxide (aka gas) that forms bloating.

Not saying we should totally avoid these sort of food. Balance in consumption is definitely the key. Alternatively, consider steam or boil lightly your cruciferous produce for consumption as this can reduce the bloating effect.

Dairy produce:

If you experience bloating effect mostly after dairy beverages consumption (e.g., milk, cheese..) well, you’re likely experiencing some form of intestinal distress which can also mean a sign of lactose intolerance. If that’s the case, I do strongly encourage you to start exploring alternative healthy eating and nutrition for Lactose Intolerance.

Citrus fruits:

Personally, the consumption of fruits like apples and grapes gives me gas.  They contain a high quantity of fructose a sugar form as you digest that turns into gas. If you like these type of fruits, try to avoid eating on empty stomach and just consume in moderation at a time.

What are the prevention measures?

Ginger:

Is one of best-known home remedy for colds, nausea and stomach upsets. Amongst other wonderful effects can have to our body it also has the carminative effects to remediate body in digestion and helps reduce the accretion of gas.

A common discomfort to most women is having that bloating feel
just prior menstrual cycle and to an extent does cause discomfort pain.  Personally I find a doze of fresh grind
ginger with warm water definitely help reduces the bloating feel and had over
the years comforted me through those inevitable monthly cycles.

No fresh gingers? No worries! Ginger supplements can help. Studies[1] shows that ginger supplements do facilitate relieve bloating and stomach indigestion. I personally would go for organic grown ginger root produce supplement.

Natural Herbs:

Contains carminative substance helps to eliminate gas and prevent bloating. For instances, peppermint, basil, cumin, and chamomile helps relief of gas.

Probiotics:

Is another good source of natural intake to aid bloating discomfort. Probiotics are good bacteria. These microorganism act as a supporting agent in our digestive system and at the same time helps reduces the accumulation of gas in our system. Natural sources of probiotics include Kimchi, Yogurt.
